Corrosion resistance:
Due to its high chromium content of 23%, the corrosion resistance of biphase 2304 is actually equivalent to that of 316L alloy. Its biphase structure and low nickel and high chromium content make biphase 2304 have better stress corrosion resistance compared to 304L and 316L standard austenite grades. The stress corrosion cracking performance in chlorinated aqueous solution is better than that of alloys 304L and 316L, and the corrosion rate (65%) in boiling water nitric acid is higher than that of alloy 316L. Its high yield strength makes biphase 2304 perform well in wear/corrosion applications, compared with molybdenum biphase stainless steel. The microstructure of duplex 2304 is very stable with equal amounts of ferrite and austenite in the annealed tissue.
